3 Month Furlough, I am hopefully back on the Blogging!

Well I am back folks from my 3 month stint away from the internets. If you don't know much with what's happening, I have had my life changed for the best! I met the Most Amazing Woman of my life who will be hanging around for years to come. Yes, It's Kristin! She is THE ONE!. She is so in love with Jesus, is incredibly Beautiful, Witty, Hilarious, Loves to travel, Adventuresome, did I mention Good Looking, Hard Working, and Loveable. I love her so much. She means the world to me. We are slowly planning our life together for the rest of our lives.

Be on the lookout for updates. And if you don't know Kristin, now's the time to meet her.

Work is good, since I have a job! Scheduling has been no bueno, so adjusting my schedule has been a no no. We'll see! But I still love the job, I just love being with Kristin More!

01 June 2009

I have been incredibly preoccupied with other attentions!

So yeah. I have a girlfriend, for those of you that don't know. Her name is Kristin Dodds and she is so Amazing. Uncle Loren, I will be calling you soon. It's been a while!

Maybe I will write more later. Blogging is not so important to me at this point in time. Working tons. Trying to spend every other moment with Kristin and Friends!

Things I Done Learned While Driving Through Three States...

So yeah. I have tried to update this post a tad earlier, but work is preoccupying my time these days. I am not saying it's a bad thing or anything like this, it's just hard to sit down and tell my thoughts on this trip.

First of all, it was great to have a week off and get away from life so to speak. I think it gives us as humans time to truly relax and reflect on our God given lives. It's a true Sabbath period.

I made my way down on Saturday, the day prior to Easter. The drive through Southern Utah was gorgeous, and there were scattered showers throughout the day. But the seven hour or so trip was nice, just relaxing to the sounds of the ipod and peeing in a bottle while driving to "shed some valuable minutes."

I stopped in St., George for a gas-up and hung out for a few at SkyWest's Corporate Headquarters. I wanted to meet some of the Crew Support Kids I hear from so much. Really wanted to match some names with faces. It was nice. I saw a different side of Crew Support and understood their job a bit better in terms of how it contributes to the big picture of SkyWest. All Bueno.

Spent the night and Uncle Mel and Aunt Linda's new Casa de Arizona. They just bought a new house and are still getting settled in. It's pretty nice, and to sleep in a bed and have a home cooked meal, well...priceless. Good to be around family. Just wish I got to see Bob and Kathy. Next time.

Easter Sunday came and I thanked the Lord for Punching Death in the Face, as Tommy6 Burkhardt described it. The fact that Christ rose from the grave and ascended into heaven distinguishes True Christianity from any other belief. Jesus is Alive.

I head out to lake Mojave and made it to Telephone cove where the YMCA had set up. I parked the Subie on the edge of camp and set up the car-tent. Not too shabby I'd say. Even brought my puzzle-piece table, which became quite the hit at camp.

Camp was good, and brought back many memories of good times with campers as well as counselors. I even think that is where I met Ponch, Erick Estrada that is. And look where that got us...we went to Uganda together! But camp was cool. I got to relax, counsel ninth graders and live off the land (metaphorically speaking). I didn't shower, shave, put deodorant on..twas the life of a bum! I even wore my dad's old 80's trunks most of the week. Comments on Facebook compare the pics to my Father. I truly am turning into Gary Parks. It IS my destiny.

Got some good wakeboard time in as well. I am hoping to buy a wakeboard soon in fact, so I don't have to borrow one. I really enjoy the sport. I will have a pic up soon, but I did it in a Tigger Costume this year. Awesome.

Campfire was awesome every evening. I got to do the Squirrel Skit (Run around frantically, yelling "the squirrels, they're after me," to which it concludes with, "They think I'm nuts!") How fitting. We also introduced the "Baptize" skit which went Amazingly well, thanks to my Nacho Libre interpretation yelling "Baptize!" You could hear kids yelling it the rest of the week. Singing John Denver's "Country Roads" and "Cat's in the Cradle."

Camp ended and I went on my merry way. I Cut over to Highway 95 in the Tri-state area of California, Arizona, & Nevada. I could see Cali in the distance and so just wanted to drive home. Headed North instead, then East to Hoover Dam to see how it's looking these days. Still there! So impressive!

Worked my way through Vegas, up the 15 and onto Salt Lake with a stop in Cedar City for some gas and Arby's. Had some Shaved Meat of Course! I guess now you can add bacon onto it. So I tried. Dang Amazing.

Headed out to the Beauty of Utah (no sarcasm there, seriously) working my way home. God taught me a lesson there. I have had a fairly bad attitude about Utah. Though it is pretty, the peeps and their laws just bring it down for me. But God challenged me to just drop that, appreciate his Creation, and His beauty. I did. It doesn't matter about man's laws. God's Law supercedes! And the Wacky people, oh well. I have got to live life no matter where I am. And live it to the fullest.

Got home and ended up hanging with Ryan, Caleb, Bethany, Nick and Jill. Made a few friends over some Belgian Ales and Food!

The next day I went to K2 to meet with Bethany to see Esther Fleece, from New Life in Colorado Springs. Got to Worship and get my church on, which I appreciate more and more, as well as chat with Esther, who is so full of life and positivity, which is her love of God. Made a few friends eating lunch with Nick at the Coachman, and went my to cover the chores. Bethany called me that night for some Olive Garden, then I made my way to Nick's place to sample some of his homebrew. I like Nick. He's a cool cat, a BIOLA grad and we have a bit in common. Nice to make a new friend in UTAH.

Came home, Went Surfing with Paul Wallace in the San Gabriel Riverbed, and met up with another cool gal, Kristin, who is Bethany's BFF (Another BIOLA GRAD) in Norwalk at teh Starbucks she manages. Didn't get much to talking, but she seems pretty snazzy. Also met with Kelly Hottinga for some Camarillo Outlet shopping time! Bought a lot of Neon Yellow for Cheap! Also got some Retro New Balances for 20 Bones!

Back to work and I was in Boise, Victoria and Tucson. Tucson was nice and I chilled by the pool all day. Boise was Great. I always love that overnight and got to explore around the greenbelt area. More and more, I want to move there. Had dinner with Shelley Applegate-Howell who made some killer burgers. Also went to Victoria, BC. It is so Beautiful. Our hotel is great and the environment (Island living meets Pacific Northwest) was awesome! I recommend it as any Vacation spot.

All is Well...See you soon
Here's the Caravan Pics!
Started my trip

In Memory of Gary Parks.

I will update you in the next few days with my Caravan Adventures. But in the meantime, I have done a little R&D about kickin' it old school.

I give you this, OP (Ocean Pacific) style corduroy shorts. Yes, this company makes them. I just ordered the teal. I officially nominate them my bike riding shorts!

People I want to see wearing them. By people, I mean men.
Paul Wallace - to see if he can't look good in them.
Gary Parks - Because it's my dad.
Jason Yost - Those shorts with work boots = Makita Magic!

Tan your legs boys!

Stay Classy San Diego

I was in San Diego the other day for an overnight, and decided to walk from Old Town SD to Downtown San Diego. I was invited to hit up the Padres-Dodgers game, but turned it down. I discovered a lot on my long 7.5 mile round trip journey. Found this really cool pub, the Waterfront (2044 Kettner Blvd, SD) for sliders and Boddington's. Totally a chill place I would be a regular at.

Here's the pics I took. Denise, Paul, I dedicate these to you...

Also went to Portland and saw My School Mom/Advisor from Hope Intl, Nancy Crawford. Also saw my friends Matt and Holly, and we had an amazing time quoting urban culture and drinking at McMenniman's Kennedy School.

Finally, Went to Reno, and ate all you can eat seafood buffet at the Grand Sierra Resort with my flight attendant and her grandparents. Amazing Food Coma.

This is why you love Jason Parks

First there was Carl's Jr.

Now Burger King has stepped into the mix. Probably the best commercial out there right now. I laughed so hard. Here is the long extended version of the Music Video. Below ,the Commercial.

I am waiting for Wendy's to do a Square burger Commercial.

Was in Vancouver BC the other day. Picked up this shot from the Flying Beaver Restaurant and Pub.

I think i am going to get on the "Hey, I am going to write a book" bandwagon. No offense guys, but my idea is to write the crazy adventures that stem from traveling the world. Something rather official, on paper, that tells my crazy stories, such as meeting those gals in Reno for All You Can Eat Sushi. I want something that can prove to my children that I am not lame. When that conversation comes up, "Dad, you're boring!" OH YEAH, take a look at this!!!!

Suck at this weeks episode. I randomly called my friend Denise and she picked me up from the hotel in Phoenix. We went to a wedding!!!

I was a bit underdressed, just dressed casual. The ceremony was nice. Open bar afterward though, so I had a few glasses of wine. I mingled and was mistaken for one of the groomsmen who had changed. You see, the bride was Black, and the Groom was White. The only young white guys were in the wedding party. I just played along with it, sort of. Ate shrimp cocktail, baklava for appetizers. For dinner though, it was fried chicken, collared greens, and cornbread. Instead of the traditional toast with champagne, we took shots of Ouzo, which by far is the worst tasting Liquor, next to Absynthe. Even had a drunk guy grab the mic and say something not understandable. It was fun, fo shizzle!!!!

I have been looking for a travel suit, something of like Nostalgic 1940's travel. A leisure suit of sorts, by function, not design. I found one site that will custom make them for like $100.
Even so, I was at Burlington Coat Factory and found this Nautica Suit for $110.

I wan't a White Suit, with white shoes (Aldo, Steve Madden and Calvin Klien) with a nice fedora and a Leather or Canvas Satchel. That's how I imagine myself when I travel. Now it's time to look the part! I was reading that when traveling, pack little to nothing. I want to try it. I found a North Face Waterproof bag that doubles as a backpack (conveniently in white or red) that is perfect carry-on size.

And Apparently Jesus loved him some SCUBA.

Good Idea: Bad Idea

Good Idea

Going to Reno/Sparks Nevada. It's a cool town, seriously. Sparks boasts the Sparks Marina, a small lake of sorts with a beach, dog park, running trail, boating and fishing. Nest to the Marina is Sheels, the World's Largest Outdoor Recreation store (Over 253,000 square feet). It has EVERYTHING. Gotta visit, and get mugged practically by every employee. They've got a plethora of mannequin Presidents!

Downtown Reno boasts the Truckee river. They developed it as a Kayak park. It was great to go, relax, and watch kayakers, enjoy the nice weather and chill.Afterwards, I went to the Sierra Taphouse, where they had my favourite wheat beer, Sierra Nevada's Crystal Wheat, which is hard to find outside of Chico CA. I ended up meeting two gals, Erin and Meghan, who pretty much kidnapped me, and took me to All you can eat Sushi by the Reno Airport (In the same plaza as Costco). Really good. Once again, random adventures I experience, random people I meet. I love my life!

Bad Idea:

Eating two Bowls of FiberOne Cereal (each bowl having twice the serving size). I think I had 200% of Fiber! I think you can figure out the rest of the story.

It's Gonna Be Hot! - Richard Blade KROQ-era Remix

Well here is yet another installment of the life and times of Jason Parks.

I see one of y'all have commented on the last post. All good. After I posted that, there were a few events that really confirmed people not living up to what they believe. Please note here I am not judging them (Heaven or Hell), I am just saying what I observe how people are living and how the Bible says that will be happening. I encourage all, including myself, to stay grounded in the Bible and live what you believe. Appreciate the comment Nate.

I bought these ipod headphone adapters from http://www.acoustibuds.com/. They fit over the earpieces so that one has an in-ear bud, vs. on-ear speaker. I prefer the in-ear. Really like the skullcandy ones too. They work just fine. Here's a pic in case you are wondering.
A lot has been happening these last few months, and weeks for that matter. I spent St. Patrick's Day with Kelly Hottinga, whom I hadn't seen for a while now. We went to the Auld Dubliner with her cousin, Lindsay Yost, as well as her roommate Crystal and her friend Bernadette. We had a blast. And in usual Long Beach Drunken fashion, I got hit on by a guy. (I think it's cause they keep crossing the streams like Peter Venkman says not to do).
I have been working a whole lot, like 100 flight hours a month (normally we get 80 and can reduce down to 62.5 flight hours. 80 is like 4 days on, 3 days off). A hundred hours is good. It keeps me busy. I love working/serving and traveling. If I have too many days off, I spend money. Trying to save with all that is happening in my life, and with the media propagating that the economy is in shambles. Do you realize that the government tells you to save your money (which since November, more people have saved their money than in a long time. See www.feedthepig.org). But they also want you to spend and "stimulate the economy." Sounds to me like a double edged sword. I think Dave Ramsey's Principle is correct: 10% God, 10% Savings, 80% Bills and Fun (Translated loosly).

I saw two ladybugs doing it in Sacramento. Love IS in the air.Speaking of great deals (I know Andrew, they will get cheaper), I was in Boise the other day and walked to the house I am interested in. Only took 20 minutes from the hotel. It's still up and for sale. Micron and Another Company just laid off 5000 peeps in Boise. So people are selling again to move out to get work. Once again, along with the post-spring break sales coming up, this should drive housing down yet again. I will wait some more, within a year I am thinking to buy. Russ Howell, Shelley Applegate-Howell's husband suggests I wait with all the madness. I guess there are even tent cities going up in Boise, with the housing crisis. Here are some pics.
Random pics from a few last trips, and no, I don't smoke Ciggarettes!

But I will have a good margarita in Austin!
Bought a new comforter and a duvet cover from IKEA USA. It's so colorful. Would look much better with a purple wall behind it!
God is really Good. Been casually praying more, and I know people like Denise and Paul are praying for me as well. Thanks for the note guys.

Bought my Hops for Hop Farm 2.0. I ripped out the Cascade hops by the porch, only to let it accidentally die. I ordered two this time: Cascade (Sierra Nevada is big on Cascade) and Hallertauer (Sam Adams Hop) It will be planted along side my Green bell peppers and apparent tomatoes I have growing. I also have a Thornless Boysenberry Vine and a clip of a Blackberry Vine from Eugene. The hops cant be sent to California, so I shipped them to Utah and will fly them in. It's gonna be Hot! Very floral and smelling nice.As for the living situation, there is yet another dramatic moment. Ryan, the husband, called me last week and basically said that if his wife is home alone, I cannot be there with her. So from 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday, I cannot show up. I understand the principle, but it's pretty lame! I am hardly there. I have come to the decision I shall be looking for a new place to live. I can't help it that I am ridiculously good looking! There appear to be too many restrictions on me (can't brew beer there, no friends over when daughter is there, and now I can't be there 8a to 6p. On top of that, I am only there like 5 days a month. And all I do is eat, sleep, and laundry it up. So I think my stay has exceeded it's welcome. Not much I can do here. Maybe they didn't know what they were getting into. It's probably not me. But I think too that if someone else were to live here under those rules, they probably wouldn't live there. I love the Murphy's, but the rules are just beyond having a place to "call home while in Salt Lake." I have a few options that I am looking into. And I have a few questions for them to answer, all in love, especially the illegality of that.

I saw this in a 14 year old "Big Bopper Magazine. What has our society come to, teaching our kids to read this Crap. How does Jessica Simpson feel about this printed in this manner. And I'm Sure all 14 year olds want to know what kind of Party girl they are....
That's about all there is to life. Cannot complain. Well I could, but I won't. Complaining gets you no where. I love God and life. Thank him. If I do move somewhere else in SLC, it will be closer to the airport I reckon. Hope you penciled in my address with the way I nomadically migrate.

I also have met a lovely lady this week. I met her on a flight from Edmonton (Alberta, Canada, Eh) to Chicago. Yes, she's Canadian! I can't describe it with words all that well, but we had an amazing connection on the flight. I knew 1/3 to 1/2 within the conversation that I was going to give her my info. I almost left a day early here in Downey to fly with her back to Canada today (so Random, I know). But we have been texting and even have talked a few times on the phone. She seems pretty cool, and I am playing it cool, taking my time to get to know her. And the distance might help there. Taking Paul and Denise's advice from a while ago to take it easy, take my time and not rush into the mix. This is all I will say for now, but keep that in prayer. All is looking pretty good! Woo Hoo!

Finally, I I have a pretty good schedule for April. I got the days of I needed (the 12th - 19th, DUSD's Spring Break). This means I am officially a counselor for Easter Caravan!!!! I get to road trip it down to Lake Mojave with my Kayak and rock out with Jr. Highers for a week. I am super excited to serve in this capacity. The only thing I have to do with my schedule is change the planes I am flying on, from the TurboProp to the Jet. That will be easy. If not, I can sacrifice working those planes for spring break off!

Here's some fun from Canada!!! How Appropriate!
Went to San Fran on a 28 hour overnight this week. Here are some photographic memories.

You think you have baggage problems???
